<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Average\nwidth of the region is 40kms at the eastern and western extreams and 222kms in\nthe central part.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Region of\nlofty peaks and vast glaciers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rocks of\nthis region contain the fossils bearing marine sediments which are underlain by\nTertiary Granite.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Greater Himalayas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Also known\nas Himadri\/Inner or Central Himalayas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>25kms wide\nwith an average height of above 6100m<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contains\nalmost all the lofty peaks like Mt.Everest, Kanchanjunga, Nanga Parbat etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Few Gaps\nmainly provided by antecedent rivers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less rainfall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being lofty,\nthey have very little forest area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Lesser Himalayas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Also known\nas Middle Himalayas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Width is\naboiut 80km with an average height of 1300-4600m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consists of\nunfossiliferous sediments or metamorphosed crystalline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main rocks\nare slate, limestone and quartzite.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This region\nis subjected to extensive erosion due to heavy rainfall, deforestation and\nurbanization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Outer Himalayas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Also known\nas The Shiwaliks\/Sub-Himalayas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extends from\nJammu and Kashmir to Assam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>8kms in east\nto 45kms in the west.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Average\nelevation of about 900-1500m above Sea level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not a\ncontinuous range.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Broader in\nthe west and narrows down in the east.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Several Doon\nareas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Regional\/Transverse\nClassification of Himalayas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Western\nHimalayas<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Kashmir\nHimalayas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Himachal Himalayas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Central\nHimalayas<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>U.P\nHimalayas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nepal\nHimalayas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eastern\nHimalayas<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Darjeeling-Bhutan-Assam\nHimalayas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purvanchal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Passes through the mountain wall:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Khyabar\nPass\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1000m<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leadsfrom\nPeshawar to Kabul.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most famous\nof all the passes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Gomal\nPass\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1525m<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>South of\nKhyber Pass<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Served as a\ntrade route passing through Waziristan(Pakistan)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Bolan\nPass\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1800m<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Between\nSulaiman and the Kirthar ranges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leads from\nKandhar to Quetta<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the very\nnorth, there are two difficult routes via the Karakoram Pass and the Z&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
